Dedicated to the memory of David Saker

We announce the death of David Saker on 1st April 2024, aged 102 years. David spent his final years in Holywell Nursing home in Brent Knoll, Somerset, having previously been a long-term resident of Erith and Bexleyheath.

David was an active member of Christ Church in Erith, being a Sidesman for many years with responsibility for winding the Church clock, no mean feat given the number of steps up the bell tower. He was Group Scout Leader of 13th Erith Christchurch Scout Group, a movement the love for which he passed on to his son, grandsons, and great grandchildren. He was a keen dancer, both ballroom and sequence, with his wife Irene, who died in 1999.

A fitter and turner by trade, serving his apprenticeship working for Fraser and Chalmers in Erith, where he worked on damaged ships and submarines during WW2, he was also a member of the Home Guard. For many years he worked as an instrument technician with the Metropolitan Water Board.

He leaves three children, eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
